Castiel helps Sam and Dean on an unusual case. Throughout the process, it the hunter and the angel fight against (and finally come to terms with) their feelings for one another. Based off the scene where Cas watches Dean rake leaves when he is living with Ben and Lisa (don't worry, they're not really characters in this fic). Some mild angst, some Dean being repressed and annoying, some Cas being an awkward bean, and some Sam being 110% done. Eventual fluff and smut and love and all of those good things because our boys deserve a happy ending for once, don't you think?

Their father has hardly been in their lives, his job as a drug dealer requiring him to disappear for long periods of time and causing them to move around a lot. But when their dad finally gets arrested, a man named Bobby Singer takes the boys in and enrolls them in a more permanent school. And as if his father's incident wasn't hard enough on him, Dean begins to question his sexuality when he meets quiet, introverted, and (he must admit) quite cute Castiel.

After a falling out with his family, Dean Winchester decided to get away from everyone in his hometown by joining the army. He felt like he belonged, unlike in the small and suffocating town. To keep up the family tradition, Castiel Novak joins the army despite his unwillingness. It was a blessing and a curse: he was getting away from his annoying family but he was doing it in a way he hated. They were both on the same mission, the one that went AWOL and risked the lives of all 23 men and women. The mission that was kept secret, with only two survivors.

Dean Winchester died. From his state of death, it was obviously intentional-and not by him. Dean's case went on for years before running cold. It was simply left unsolved. It was devastating, resulting in his family never getting over it-and neither did he. After he passed, Dean became a ghost without his memory of when he was alive. All he knew was that he had unfinished business before he died and he would finish it in the afterlife. He absolutely would not pass peacefully without knowing the truth-without knowing everything. Enter Castiel Novak. He moved to an all new town and into a vacant house-which may have been the best or worst decision of his life. His first sign was when a man kept coming to his door, but he turned him away. Then things went missing, his cat would hiss randomly and words were written on his mirror in a language he couldn't decipher.
