Dr. Jonathan Mortis' wife is dead. Taken by the drug known as 'Krokodil', the pathologists' only living family member is now six feet under in the city cemetery. Now, after also surviving a crash that should have ended his life, Mortis is obsessed with death and proposes a country wide study. Citizens will be assigned numbers and put into a lottery at the age of twenty-one. If chosen, citizens will be flown to a remote, yet furnished, island monitored by Mortis and his team. Even numbers are the victims who are forced to survive on the island with what could only be considered the undead. Odd numbers are the 'Angels of Death', people injected with the 'Krokodil' drug and forced to eat human brains in order to induce a crazed mental state. Mortis swears that he will have no intervention in the study, but when the beautiful Adelaide finds herself in a situation that she never would have imagined, Mortis must make a choice...ignore the girl and continue his work, or potentially risk his study in the name of love. (Note: There is some mild use of language.) Highest Ranking: #757 in Science Fiction Credit to @TheLandOfTheShadows for brainstorming this story with me. Without her, this story would never have existed. Thank you so much, @TheLandOfTheShadows, this entire story is dedicated to you.
