A man, held captive in a small room for decades, had lost all hope of escape. One day a maple leaf, carried by the wind, enters his room through a small window - setting off a chain of events that give him the will to attempt a daring escape. After years of abuse, no outside contact, and total tyranny of his physical and metaphysical self - can he find a way to break free of the walls within his mind and the walls which surround him in reality? A story that explores the passage of time, good and evil, living with the concept of death, and the sheer power of one's will to survive. *You can further support my work by purchasing this novel on Amazon Kindle or by downloading it through Kindle Unlimited* (Completed Novel: 45,000 words - 29 Chapters - Epilogue - Author's Note)

****Copyrighted**** 'Tell me you don't feel it.' He whispered against my lips, and the trembling that had ceased at the feel of his lips against mine began again with renewed vigor. 'Tell me it's not what you want, and I'll go. You'll never have to see me again.' Swallowing, I looked up at the eyes that had entranced me from the start. I took in his every feature, slowly and deliberately. I thrilled at the feeling of his arms enfolding me, and I inhaled his familiar scent with a trembling breath. And then, then I did the most foolish thing imaginable: I flung my arms about his neck and kissed him with all that I had, almost losing myself in the safety and security I felt. But more than that, I ran. I took his moment of shock, the slight loosing of his arms about me, and tore myself away from him, shoving out the door and into the rain. I suppose I'll never know why he didn't follow me. It was the thing I feared most. I knew that if he came for me a second time, I wouldn't be able to say 'no'. I wouldn't be able to run. But I had to. I had to go. I couldn't let him be hurt because of me. He would live on now, and I would marry another. I had leased my last bit of passion in that one moment in his arms, and as I made my way through the dark streets, I felt myself become dull and lost like the creatures bound in the menagerie. **Much of this was written when I was younger and then I came back later and finished it. There will likely be mistakes. Lots of them.

And are ghosts... real? Twenty-two-year-olds Arielle Daniels and Stella Sullivan go on an east-coast ghost-hunting tour to honor their recently deceased best friend, Jade, whose death remains a mystery. Only her parents know the circumstances, and they refuse to tell anyone. Stella wants to pay her respects by following Jade's bucket-list; but Arielle wants real, palpable answers. What happens after death? Why has she lost so many loved ones? And how exactly did Jade die? In the midst of their journey, Arielle realizes she might have been in love with Jade, but now... she has no way to be sure, and no idea how to reveal this to Stella--or anyone else, for that matter. As they travel, the girls discover more about themselves than they anticipated, both forced to come to terms with their emotions; Arielle to accept her bisexuality, and Stella to acknowledge her heritage as the descendant of a long line of psychic mediums. But the trip takes on an eerie tone when they get more than they bargained for, and swallow up more occult knowledge than either ever expected to find in their lifetimes. • WARNING: this book is rated MATURE for handling triggering, sensitive issues.
