(co-written by me and @phandefensesquad) Dan Howell is a mermaid with a pretty great life. He's popular. Everyone wants to be with him. He comes from a powerful, rich family. Most of all, he's curious. All he wants is to experience the surface and learn why everything is so beautiful, despite the fact that the surface is strictly forbidden Phil Lester is a human. He has his head in the clouds, despite his father being a well known marine scientist trying to find out the secrets of the deep sea. All Phil wants is to find something to give him some adventure. So when these two cross paths, what could possibly go wrong?

Dan Howell: A boy who loves to wear anything pastel colored. He always just kinda assumed he was straight, until he met Phil Lester. Phil Lester: A boy who wears all black and loves to wear band T-Shirts as well, as long as they aren't too colorful. He never knew you could feel such strong feelings towards a person, until he meets Dan Howell.

Dan wasn't like any other 16-year-old boy. He liked flowers and pink things. Big deal? Clearly it was to those around him. He was different, that was why they hated him. Phil was like most 16-year-old boys, just not like the ones at his school. Being raised in a nasty neighbourhood meant the piercings and dyed hair were also seen as different. If you weren't rich, you were a mistake. When these two outcasts meet, they'll change each other's lives forever. They just need to learn to let each other in.
