Life on earth in 2312 was far from ideal. Cities were burnt to the ground after decades -- centuries even, of nuclear wars. Some countries that were thriving two centuries agobwere dead, extinct, gone, obliterated. The world's surviving population was sparsely spread across the globe. Ireland, France, the US, Canada, Switzerland, Holland, Belgium and Japan had to be the richest surviving countries. Most of the countries in Africa were safe also, with the exception of South Africa, Côté d'Ivoire and Egypt. Most of the countries bordering the Mediteranean were in extreme poverty. Italy, Greece, Libya, Malta. Spain was unoccupied, too bombed down to come back. Then people started popping up. Unusual people. They had unexplainable gifts. The World Government decided to deal with these new people, capturing them all and putting them into the world's only surviving OTL zone. The purpose? Nobody knows, or at least nobody can remember.
