Ebonie was just a young woman seeking companionship after failing at most of the important things in life. That had been her first mistake, not the failing part, but thinking she could successfully find a lover (husband hopeful). Now she was just young, maybe still a woman (depending on if one consider only human females to be women) , but she was diffidently something else now. But in pure Ebonie fashion, she was somehow even failing at being turned into a supernatural being. Great.
