However, he is battling a mental illness that he just can't seem to get rid of. After being diagnosed with BDD-Body Dysmorphic Disorder, Jack begins to fall into a sense of depression. His mind begins to play tricks on him, making him believe that his outer appearance is grotesque and needs to be hidden from the world. He's lost nearly all self-esteem, making it very difficult for him to find his lovely princess, and live a "normal" life; that and the fact that he never leaves his humble mansion...EVER. He's been turned down repeatedly in the past from true beauties, such as, Rapunzel, Snow White, and the one and only, Cinderella; even her ugly step-sisters wouldn't give him a chance. As time passed, his numerous experiences with rejection, his undying fear, and heart-breaking memories made his life seem hopeless, pressuring him to do desperate things. Jack later decides to seek out a way to alter his appearance. He stumbles onto what seems to be the prayer he's been asking for but he accidentally finds it in the wrong place leading him to an evil-minded con-artist.
