I had been bonded to. One moment I was having an absolute blast living my normal, broke, standard life and the next I was entertaining a tall, handsome blonde vampire intent on knowing me fully. The vampires has always been a part of our world. They dressed human- or.. well, old fashioned, but nevertheless human, did human things like sit in theatres and drive cars, vote, pay taxes yet control every last one of us. I don't understand how it all seemed so seamless. Especially with an organisation like Lovebites on the scene. They mate with humans, specifically human females- intent on creating life partners- through the means of courting, gentle seduction and a government who can force us into giving them a chance, because- for once in our measly little existence, we have the upper hand. We cannot feel the bond.

A wolf unseeing is not an asset. A wolf deformed is an embarrassment. A wolf unloved is dead. But, a wolf who is brave is free. I was born to save my brother's life, the future Alpha of the Blood Moon Pack; I was the sacrificial lamb in wolf's clothing. I was raised without love, care, compassion, and even my sight. My sole reason for existing was to die. I would be his salvation. Despite that, four months before my destiny would claim my life, my brother set me free. He had a plan: I would escape, he would come for me later, and we would live freely together. I, however, had a plan of my own. To escape my destiny, and to escape him. What I hadn't counted on was finding what I had always been desperate for: a pack void of hatred, and an Alpha who seemed equally desperate for me. I finally had the chance to feel real, true happiness. But, fate wasn't so forgiving, and neither was my brother. *Dual POV*18+* *Trigger Warning: This fictional work contains depictions of mental, emotional, physical, & sexual abuse, as well as incestuous acts. There is a photograph. First birthday. The whole family around the long table - candles lit, cake centred, everyone leaning toward Isabella reaching for the flame, everyone laughing, everyone looking at the same thing. At the edge of the frame, barely in it, a small dark-haired girl in a white dress is looking at the candle. Not at her family. Not at her sister. Not at the camera. Just at the candle. Quiet. Still. Already, at one year old, watching the warmth from a slight distance. Nobody remembers who took the photograph. It was never framed. Never put in an album. Found years later in a box in the study, loose, slightly creased, as though it had simply been waiting. Her name is Serena Marchetti. The second twin. Born eleven minutes after her sister into a room already arranged around someone else - and she stayed that way, at the edge of things, for as long as the Marchettis of Milan would let her. This is not the story they would tell about her. This is hers.
