Alice Pan, desperate for a child, is helpless to do anything except watch her friends and those close to her welcome their children into the world. The burden weighs down on her as she wonders what's wrong with her, as her husband's parents start to remind them more and more often that his business will need an heir, and as she watches her last big dream fly away from her. When little Peter comes into the world, he is everything that Alice ever wished for and more. And everything is perfect--until Peter disappears.

In present day Denver, there is only one rule: do not deviate from your predestined path. Seventeen-year-old Kirk Hawthorne thinks he's the only person who can see the colored lines dictating the future of the world's population. Stretching out before your feet like snaking streets on a road map, the lines are impossible to defy. They're impossible to escape. Or are they? When faced with imminent danger - danger that was supposed to end his life - Kirk jumps off his dull pink line, breaking the only rule he's ever known. He's thrust into an underworld of urban myths and unspeakable truths, endless lies and the one thing he never expected to find: others who know about the lines. His eccentric former colleagues become powerful allies - allies he must now choose between. Does he side with the abolitionists, who are determined to destroy the omnipresent lines? Or the conformists, who cling to the comfort the lines provide? Or does he run away? The abolitionists consider hyper-intelligent Kirk to be an incredible asset. They say the conformists are planning to manipulate the lines to bomb the country's eleventh hour peace talks - triggering a war with Mexico. And when Kirk's adoptive father is conscripted into the war effort, Kirk has to choose between personal conviction and the path that's best for the people he loves. Abolitionists or conformists. Peace or war. Fate or freedom. The Matrix meets The Sims with a touch of Markus Zusak in ABOLITION, a YA contemporary science fiction novel. ABOLITION is completed, and updates will be posted every Sunday and Wednesday.
