Deschide ochii încet și îi pironește pentru câteva momente pe tavanul alb. Se ridică în fund, se întinde după telecomandă și dă televizorul mai încet. Tsunamiul s-a oprit.

,, ― Știi, Ellene, deși nu poți vorbi, reușești să transmiți o poveste mai frumoasă decât oricine altcineva. Îl privesc, neștiind ce aș putea să scriu pe hârtia din fața mea. Cum aș putea eu oare să răspund unei astfel de fraze? ― Știu cât de nătâng sună, dar... vorbește-mi, Ellene." Ellene a fost înzestrată cu multe daruri, însă vorbitul nu este unul dintre acestea. Deși nu are o viață palpitantă, fata reușește totuși, să vadă frumusețea chiar și în cele mai neimportante lucruri. Biblioteca era refugiul ei până în ziua în care camioneta învechită parchează în fața acesteia, iar Kay devine noul ajutor de bibliotecar. Lucrurile urmează să se schimbe pentru amândoi în momentul în care se cunosc și reușesc să descopere ceea ce le-a fost străin până acum.
