What comes after death? It's a question that at least everyone has thought of at some point. Maritae Kai, newly dead, didn't have much of a life. At least that's what she gathered from the veiled memories of her living self, a feature that comes with the package of being dead. After years of living in the world of souls, Unoando, Maritae is beginning to understand many concepts of the world. However, she isn't what some would consider normal, at least for souls. Maritae needs to constantly eat and drink daily in order to sustain herself, an aspect that only specific souls possess. These souls are called "Angels". Angels are prone to change, and must be trained to hone their abilities in order to prevent the horrifying Quickening from soul to fallen souls called Maligmas. Maritae would very much love to enter Angel's Arrow Academy, a school that specialises in training Angels, although her grandfather's weakened body prevents her from entering. The discovery of the disfigured body of her grandfather, and narrowly escaping death from rabid beasts gave her the opportunity to enter the Academy. As Maritae begins to familiarise herself with the Academy routine and establishing bonds with other souls like herself, she also discovers secrets and hidden truths within the Academy boundaries, that are better left unknown...

For the entirety of her life, Karen has had numerous last names owing to her continuous transfer of foster homes. Her own last name is a mystery to both herself and those around her. She is an outcast, and it's not because she is an orphan. At sixteen, she is 'Hallows' and is involuntarily associated with the miserable side of society. She spends her time preventing playboys Shaye and Roy from causing trouble, and at the same time, staying away from trouble herself. It shouldn't be too much of a surprise when she is kidnapped after trying a good deed by two mysterious offenders. Both are strange, and not because of their weird fashion senses. Jose is not only literally red-headed, but hot-headed. Quinn is aloof and silver-haired. Both have an air of mystery surrounding them, however Karen does little to pry as her new lifestyle is by far preferable compared to her fostering homes. However, Karen's life is truly overturned not by her strange kidnappers, but by her kidnappers’ secrets. In the end, she is faced with the decision of: are Jose and Quinn the bad guys, or the good guys?
