This means that Alex had to leave his best friend, his only friend that he had known since birth. And he just knows that he won't take the news lightly. But they manage to keep in touch for years to come until one day, when Alexander is older, he decides to move to New York where his friend will be attending college. And he is a nervous wreck to meet him again. Will he still like him? Did he move on and find other friends? Regardless, he was terrified to find out.
