Every forty seconds, a child goes missing in the United States. By the time the sentence has been said aloud, it has already happened twice. Eighty seconds ago, Bailey Ramirez was the person who went missing. Looking back, I should have seen it coming. I should have known. Yet, college has a funny way of blinding you when things get complicated. To understand a story like this, I would have to take you back to a time when things were less complicated. The most important thing to remember about every complicated story is that every villain has a hero. Loki had Thor. Joker had Batman. Syndrome had the Incredibles. And I, Aleigha Emerson had Bailey Ramirez. • • • • • • • • • • • • • Book of the Year 🥇: The Lunar Awards 2018 First Place 🥇[All Genres]: The Lunar Awards First Place 🥇 [Title Winner]: Love Yourself Awards Second Place 🥈 [Mystery]: Love Yourself Awards Honorable Mention 🏅: The Sass Awards • • • • • • • • • • • • •

I've been fond of poetry since the dawn of time, so this is my love letter to poetry. I've decided to keep the poems I wrote in 2017 to show my growth, which isn't the easiest decision. My poems are about my insecurities, loss, grief, and triumph. I hope you enjoy them!
