If vampires suck the blood of humans, then what sucks the blood of vampires? The answer: Guiecs, hematophagous creatures who drink the blood of ordinary vampires. Lenora Hines, a Guiec, is a member of the Guardian Society, an organization that devotes itself to protecting humans from vampire attacks. She has sworn her loyalty to not only the Guardian Society, but the Trinity as well, which consist of the three representatives of the races that protect the peace between them: humans, vampires and Guiecs. When a newly turned vampire attacks a human, she is forced to rescue him. Little did she know, however, that he is the son of one of the human representatives: Justin Truman. Human representatives have the ability to make Guiecs their Guardian Angels, who are their sworn protectors from insatiable or dangerous vampires. Lenora is far from pleased when Justin chooses her as his Guardian Angel. Nevertheless, far more pressing matters begin to occupy the minds of the Guiecs in the Guardian Society when terrorist organizations comprised of vampires begin to attack and kidnap humans off of the streets.
