Maya becomes pregnant with her and Lucas baby when she is 15 years old and he's 16. When Maya's parents find out she is pregnant they tell her that they will force her to give the baby up but Lucas and her have other plans. In an attempt to keep the baby with at least one of them Maya tells Lucas to take the baby and leave after she unexpectedly gives birth to the baby. He leaves with baby girl in toe in the meantime Maya's parents up and move out of NYC so that she can be hidden. 3 years later Maya returns to the city after getting accepted to NYU where she runs into Lucas and their 3 year old daughter Cailyn.
