Harry and Charlotte Potter were twins, though you couldn't tell from looking at them, that's probably why they never knew. Harry was raised by the Dursleys, as you know. And Charlotte was raised in a muggle orphanage. So when they arrived at Hogwarts they needed to figure it out soon. Not to mention the fact that Charlotte was probably 10x better at Quidditch than her brother.
