It is the modern era, better known as the present of 2017/2018. For the people stuck in this doldrum stage of history, things seem to be fairly normal. There are ordinary jobs available to most around the world, healthy kids, and a growing population...or so the public would have you believe. The truth of the matter, is that several children disappear every year. In fact, the numbers have escalated into the thousands, because of the massive influx in underhanded beings. With peace and security always comes those who wish for nothing more than to disrupt it, and they have become increasingly more skilled at their job, snatching the young ones. Besides this small factor, daily routines remain the same as they have for years. There are no accounts of such unsightly creatures as dragons, fire-skinned boys, or flying objects that float about as if propelled by invisible hands. Events such as these are seen as preposterous to think about, for what logical explanation could there be for such inane displays? Ridiculous that I even mention it. But what if I told you that at least 50 of the children that disappeared each year, were kidnapped for a specific purpose? And that the purpose was to train them to master and skillfully control their magical abilities, since the normal world could never accept them if found? And, even more nonsensical, what would you say if I mentioned that this large gathering of children in learning were forced to vote out one member of their class once a month, by casting votes on pottery and watching as the "winner" became publically executed by their trustworthy teachers? Why, you would most likely find me mad.
