One of the most influential characters in the novel, The Hate List by Jennifer Brown, is Jessica Campbell. Jessica had been one of Valerie’s notorious bullies, giving her the name of “Sister Death.” Together, Jessica and her crowd had made both Valerie’s and Nick’s lives miserable at school. In Valerie’s attempt to stop the shooting, she saves Jessica’s life, irrevocably changing them both. Jessica becomes a key component to Valerie’s road to recovery; without whom Valerie would not have been able to make it through her senior year at Garvin High. Jessica became Valerie’s friend after the shooting by sitting with her, and supporting her in front of her friends at lunch when most students refused to even look at Valerie. Jessica created the opportunity for Valerie to move forward with her life by offering her a position on the student council where, together, they created a memorial for all of the shooting’s victims. It is this memorial that allows Valerie to come to terms with all of the victims, her relationship with Nick and find herself once again. Since the events of the shooting define the change in Jessica, who is central to the story, it only seems just that Jessica’s viewpoint of the shooting be depicted through in some fashion. Fan fiction is a story written about a television show, book, comic or movie by people un-connected with the original and without any intention of making a profit. Fan fiction allows the reader to create an alternate sequence of events or provide greater insight into the events of the original story-line. In this case, fan fiction allows for Jessica’s experience to be shared, since her point of view is not revealed in the novel.

"What if all the legends and myths you knew about King Arthur were wrong? Who were his friends? How did he retrieve the sword out of its stone? What if the enemy wasn't the real enemy?" So you've heard all the other versions: now it's time to tell what really happened. Our way.
