There was a time when monsters stayed hidden in the shadows, and humans went about their lives, blissfully unaware of what was lurking in the dark. But those days are long gone. The creatures from fairy tales and nightmares are done hiding-they're done letting humans call the shots. Now, there's a war tearing the world apart, and Delta Hart can do nothing but watch and hope she survives.
Separated from her family during the chaotic evacuation of Seattle, Delta finds herself swept up in the panic. Thousands of people flood the streets, desperate to escape, but she doesn't make it. She's caught, shoved onto a bus with a group of other terrified captives, and taken who-knows-where. Deep down, she knows the truth-this might be the last time she ever sees her family.
The bus eventually stops, and Delta is dragged into a cold, eerie facility, run by the kind of monster she used to think only existed in stories. A vampire. He doesn't waste time; she's thrown into an automated cell like a piece of luggage, the heavy door slamming shut behind her.
That's when she realizes just how screwed she is.
She's not alone in the cell.
Inside, there's a vampire-a starving one. He's been locked up for weeks, maybe longer, and she can see the hunger in his eyes. It's only a matter of time before he decides her blood is too good to pass up.
Delta has two choices: Survive in damnation with a monster - or pay the consequences for the mistakes of the entire human race.
