At twenty-four, Amara thought she had life figured out.
Graduate. Get a job. Move out. Make her parents proud. Fall in love. Become successful.
But life had other plans.
After four years away at university, Amara returns home with two suitcases, a degree, and no job. Instead of the fresh start she imagined, she finds herself back in her childhood bedroom, answering questions about her future while watching everyone around her seemingly move ahead.
Her friends are getting jobs, getting married, starting businesses and building lives. Meanwhile, Amara is applying for jobs, comparing herself to everyone online, questioning her worth, and wondering if she has somehow fallen behind.
Then there is Daniel-the familiar face who slowly finds his way back into her life.
As friendships change, rejection after rejection chips away at her confidence, and family expectations begin to feel heavier, Amara starts to realize that maybe going home wasn't a failure after all.
Maybe some seasons are meant to slow you down.
Maybe waiting doesn't mean wasting.
Maybe losing people doesn't mean losing yourself.
And maybe the girl who moved back home wasn't going backward.
Maybe she was finally becoming the woman she was meant to be.
The Girl Who Moved Back Home is a story about growing up, comparison, friendship, family, love, faith, rejection, and learning that you are not behind just because your life doesn't look like everyone else's.
