A Familiar: An animal that chooses a human to bond with. The bond between the human and animal are created out of acceptance of both. The human can use the animal's traits. So if you were bonded with a bird, you could transform your arms into wings and fly. If you were bonded to a rabbit, you could transform your ears into rabbit ears for great sense of hearing.
