"I sit in the corner of my cell, crying until the tears stop running and I am empty. I am alone. The only company I have is the constant drip of the leaking ceiling as droplets of water fall onto the floor of my cold, damp cell. Distant footsteps approaching my cell break me out of my silent reverie. I hold my breath as the footsteps become louder and closer. My heart is beating in my throat. The bars of my cell fly open with a deafening screech. The silhouette of a man stands before me. He is holding something in his hand. As the moonlight streams thought the bars in my window and reflects off the object, it becomes evident to me what it is. A blade. So, they have changed their minds- They are going to kill me." Imagine having a power. A power to control the futures of those you touch. Imagine being the only person ever born to have that power. Now imagine not knowing who you can trust because the power you possess is something people kill for . Audrey Carter is that girl. Everywhere she goes she wonders who is there to protect her and who is there to take her powers away. Now, on top of all that, she has to juggle being a sophomore in high school, keeping her second life a secret from those she holds close, and a very confusing love triangle. What is it like to be the only student whose goal is not only to graduate, but to live past the tenth grade?
