He was never convicted for the crimes he didn't commit, and none of his friends died. - This is sort of like an alternate universe thing where Sal and his dad never moved into the apartments so he never met any of his friends or was able to have the murders pinned on him. He had a few skin graphs that were recommended by doctors so that his face wouldn't be as sensitive to the elements and now he can walk prosthesis free.
