I froze; the guard yelled, telling me to get a move on. The unearthly screeching sent all of us into shock, soon turning into fear. Some cried the moment they reached the door. I didn't know what was coming, but it'd be painful. “Next!” I was two kids away from the cold metal plated door. I closed my eyes, hearing a scream from behind the door. The girl in front of me started to cry. “Shut up!” A guard yelled, slapping her cheek. My eyes widened and I forced myself to swallow tears that threatened to fall. “Next!” My sore bare feet scraped across the dark tiled floor as I made my way forward while the next child went in. I wouldn't survive a slap to the cheek, no matter how strong I looked. “Next!” The girl in front of me quivered and shook, her fear obvious. I cringed away from the door as a laugh echoed in the next room. “Stand up straight!” The guard yelled at me. I didn't dare look him in the eyes, knowing I'd be hit like the last child that stared at him. “Next!” My skin crawled as the door opened...

“Autumn.” Damon moaned as he kissed my lips hungrily, our hands roaming eachothers bodies. I ran my hand over his stomach, it tensed under my hand, he kissed my neck and sucked on it, I moaned in pleasure, “This is the best dream I’ve ever had,” I gasped. He stopped kissing me and his body went stiff. Did I do something wrong? He turned my head so I was looking straight into his steel gray eyes his gaze was so intense that I shivered. He leaned in, his breath hot in my ear, “This Is Not A Dream.” Then I woke up.

[NOTE: This book was written in 2010, a time of long-distance phone cards, weight-loss obsessions, and searching for a man as a solution to life's problems-what a messy time to be alive! In other words, I hope you enjoy this throwback, and while this book does end on a cliffhanger of sorts, the sequel addresses any unanswered questions (which is hopefully fair, given that book 1 is free, ya know?] An awkward family homecoming at Christmas. A humiliating public weigh-in, with two judging parents as the audience. The announcement of a deadline for arranged marriage doom. And that's just the first two chapters. In "Year of the Chick," Romi Narindra must find love before her parents find her a husband. Easy to say, less easy to live through, as this book takes you deep inside "awkward Indian living in the West." To escape her fate, Romi wades through the waters of secret-dating, where self-consciousness is at an all-time high, and experience at an all-time low. It's the sort of thing that would turn almost anyone into a man-crazy freak with romance tunnel-vision, and that's exactly what ends up happening. All the while, a lack of inspiration in her corporate job leads Romi to her love of writing, in what quickly becomes a man-quest play-by-play. From whiskey-breath scum bags to uni-brow creeps and everything in between, Romi and her wingmen come up empty time after time. And that's when she meets a fellow writer. On the Internet. So will it be arranged marriage doom, or an Internet affair that's not as creepy as "To Catch a Predator"? Time will tell in the "year of the chick," a twelve-month quest to find love. Tick-tock. --------------------------------------------- "Year of the Chick" is book one of a series, and book two is available at Amazon! LENGTH: 75,000 words or 285 pages DISCLAIMER: this book contains profanities, blunt accounts of the dating scene, and many awkward family moments. Enjoy!

Zyda is one of the most deadly beings in Terra Vox. She contains the lethal substance Vercilon and with a small slip-up she could destroy an entire city. Everyone in Terra Vox is born with a power. The range of powers are extreme, from changing eye colors to being able to blow things up with just a thought. Because of this, people with dangerous powers are ordered to go before the royal family and are often put to death. But Zyda's parents saved her and kept her power a secret. Still, her life is anything but fun; lies keep her alive, but she doesn't really live. Every time she loses control of her emotions, she burns away and heals herself simultaneously. Every day is a struggle... Until she meets Tristan, who finds out about her secret and agrees to keep it. They quickly become best friends and fall in love, but apparently Tristan is living off of lies as well. He's hiding something that turns her family's world upside down. Meanwhile, Zyda's sister Abby is sicker than anyone realizes, and when she reaches a point of no return, Zyda must save her, drawing unneeded attention to herself and making her own deteriorating state more difficult to keep under control. But none of that is enough for the world of Terra Vox, because when the royal family invites all of the most powerful people to the castle, Zyda learns she must help the people who would have her dead.
