"She had this thought. Not about choking hazards on children's toys or fatal car crashes, but a thought about how Skylar was not entirely a person. He was more like an ocean with violent currents; one of the seven seas with skin and bones and teeth. He was waterlogged with despair; bad weather with the premonition of a hurricane. And she thought that she finally understood why they named hurricanes after humans. But she lived in Arizona all of her life; she had never seen a hurricane, and she found that fitting because she had never seen anything like him either." He was as tragic as a hurricane. She was as volatile as a tornado. But when Skylar and Scout collided, they were bound for the sun. NOTE: Art for book cover by Budi Kwan.

Summer Jacobs knew full well about her town’s tradition. Every year at the end of the summer, a party would be held on school grounds without the knowledge of the parents or the teachers. It had been happening since before Summer was born and never once was anyone the wiser. This year however, everyone was going to find out. Summer had planned a weekend of alcohol, bad decisions and horrendous photo’s which she would later un-tag herself from on Facebook. A whole weekend with her friends at the biggest party of the year, without any worries or parents telling her what to do. So how she ended up trapped in the school with a deranged psycho killing her classmates off one by one, she will never know. It wouldn’t have been as bad if she was trapped on her own. She would have been happier to face the lunatic solo rather than be trapped with a guy who kept using the life or death situation to make passes at her. His theory was being so close to death should definitely loosen her up, and by ‘loosen up’ he definitely meant ‘get naked.’ Along with his friends who between them had the IQ of a baby tree stump, an outcast who probably still had Spiderman bed sheets and the cheerleaders who were more worried about all the blood staining their new white jeans, they had to somehow make it out of there alive. And to think, Summer’s biggest worry that weekend was waking up with a brutal hangover… ©makeandoffer

Jake Gallagher has always lead a particularly average life outside of the antics of his unconventional family. Average grades, average friends, and the average teenager's aversion to familial embarrassment, until his life takes a turn for the unexpected. Because sitting three rows and catercorner from Jake in his astronomy class is Skylar Glass. The insightful, attractive, interesting, starry-eyed juvenile delinquent, whose existence exceeds average in Jake's opinion. Skylar introduces Jake to the other side of life, gives him a new reason to look at the sky, and leaves a trail of stardust that prevents Jake's existence from ever being average again. Veronica Tyler wanted to forget her past as a member of the SWAT team of Los Angeles just as much as she wanted to forget her modest beginnings in a Ohio town that produced nothing but teen mothers and careers in the fast food industry. Her life was flipped upside down by the events she witnessed on the SWAT team, familial deaths, and becoming an instant mother. Despite the pitfalls, she makes a comfortable life for herself as a cop caring for her parentless nephew. At least until a virus brings the nation to its knees and the dead to their feet. Sergeant First Class Booker Ashly Dunbar - just Dunbar if you value your health - has spent the last sixteen years of his life in the U.S. army. He has taken more than a few bullets, but none of that pain could amount to the grief that has lingered for years after the deaths of some of his men in the beginning of his career. After finishing his last tour in the Middle East, he decides to enter the reserves, hoping that this new status will bring some peace back to his life. That is, until his mother dies. He comes home to find her house robbed, his sister beaten to a pulp, and the country in a state of chaos with a virus that is facilitating what is being deemed an apocalypse. Steven "Psycho Steve" Troublefield has spent the majority of his life in and out of jail cells, eventually graduating to the big leagues of prison time. After his release, he reconnects with an old pal that helps him set up a meth lab in his apartment, often referring to themselves as chemists. It's a smooth operation at first, until they encroach on the territory of a kingpin's drug syndicate. Finding themselves owing this kingpin thousands of dollars in exchange for their lives, they resort to any means necessary to get the money... Until a plague of the walking dead suddenly seem to free them from their debt. The lives of these individuals often cross in more ways than one. This is their story of the pestilence years.
