Once I was a god. Worshiped. Revered. The huddled masses cast themselves at my feet, heads bowed and eyes wide. Save us, they begged. Spare us, they pleaded. And, fool that I was, I tried. Now I am nothing. Fallen. A bitter memory of an age long passed. A broken old fool too stubborn to die. This is my story. My rise, my fall. The pathetic mess, after. Read it. Don’t. I care little. My words are not for you.

They called themselves The Unknown and revelled in their own omnipresence. Some considered them to be modern-era Robin Hoods, righting wrongs and becoming the mildly demented but impossible-to-quell voice of the working class. Others considered them to be menaces, or a sign of the fast-approaching breakdown of comfortably civilized society as it was known. The only societal constant that had thus-far outlasted it was the sport known simply as Wargame. To those who supported The Unknown, it seemed as though it was the Holy Grail. The last insolent landmark of an older time. To those who opposed them, it was a great beacon of hope that the world they occupied could still be reclaimed if there was even one thing The Unknown couldn't destroy with their wilting touch. Little did civilized society know, however, The Unknown had their own 'shining beacon': The will of X.

A collection of paranormal, horror and fantasy short stories woven around old legends, odd characters, the occasional werewolf and the darkness within, some of which have been published or picked up the odd award. There are things you cannot see unless they want to be seen, and some legends linger on despite the modern world. A Gift in the Dark is a compilation of short works, many based around old myths and legends, and starts with a tale of a miner's descent into madness, history and legend, drifts through darkness, past a retelling of Red Riding Hood, up a crane, and along to the end of the world.

Phoenix is a young Fire Elemental from a city in the fire country called Yaag.
