More than anything, Grae Winters wants to live an average, boring life. No surprises, no magic, and definitely no vampires. Unfortunately for Grae, she's anything but normal. Cursed with a power she doesn't understand, pretending to be ordinary is difficult when living in a city of the bizarre and supernatural. Grae's life only gets weirder when vampires start disappearing off Roccia Nera's streets, and she's coerced into searching for a master vampire's missing daughter. If Grae fails to find her, she'll have to take the woman's place in the master's cadre...for eternity. In a city where normalcy is overrated, Grae's life is about to get much stranger. *NOTE* I am in the process of editing and updating this story before I start the sequel - chapters with titles have been edited and finished, chapters with numbers have not. I'm moving through it as fast as I can but please bare this in mind when reading as if you go further than the parts I've edited, you may find things don't make as much sense! Iyla Punkett is a normal 13 year old girl. Well, as normal as you can be living above a shop with your uncle, struggling to make ends meet and being a social outcast at school. Soon after her 13th birthday, Iyla starts to realise she may not be as normal as she thinks. Strange things are happening around her and, as her uncle reveals a secret from her past, Iyla's life and the lives of those closest to her are about to change forever.

A Cursed Prophecy. A Clash of Wills. A Legacy which should've been destroyed. When whispers reach the ears of the Outer City, speaking of things to come, the Misfits are sent out on a mission to investigate. Their findings? The Necromancer is moving again, and this time he has an even worse plan than before. Ten Crystals. Ten Sigils. Together they make up the defence array surrounding the entire country, but there's a darker side to them. One which should've been forgotten and destroyed along with the array after its job was done. But it wasn't. The task sounds simple enough. Collect and guard the Ten Barrier Crystals. It would've been far simpler, too, if their opponent wasn't the Last Necromancer. (Book Two in the Dragon Rider Series)

"What the hell?" I took a step closer to the mirror, staring at my reflection in disbelief. The person looking back was still me, but at the same time it wasn't. I had the same thick, dark, curly hair. The same hazel eyes. The same olive skin with a light dusting of freckles (ugh) scattered across the bridge of my nose. But my curls were now streaked with highlights. And not the subtle, golden-brown ones that sometimes appeared during the summer. No, these were an aggressive, dazzling blond that went from the roots of my hair all the way to the tips. It looked like I had spent a full day getting my hair done in some upscale salon. Never mind that I had never set foot in such a place since the day I was born. My eyes appeared somehow wider and more luminous. The colour brighter, my eyelashes darker up against them. And, when I looked closely, my pupils seemed to be slitted almost like a cat. I looked down at my body. My skinny arms-which had always refused to gain any definition no matter how hard I exercised-were lined with flat, wiry muscles. My bony shoulders were now curved and smooth. My scrawny legs were toned like a dancer. I reached down and lifted my shirt, revealing two subtle lines running vertically down my perfectly flat stomach, hinting at the rock-hard abs underneath. My whole body was rippling with strength. Like liquid steel.

Heroes. Ever since they showed up, people have gone soft. They're adored, worshipped. Devotion is showered upon them like rain. It's about time someone knocks them off that pedestal they stand on, someone to crush their pillars of faith. Someone like me. A villain. It's perfect. I'll be the undoing of heroes. ≠ disclaimer: very much needs to be edited, very much needs to be less corny and very much needs to be entirely rewritten by me. if you approach it as a goofy, corny, old 2015-esque superhero book then it'll be a great time. i'll be honest and say there are no pulitzers here. completed ✓ highest rank in sf: #9 cover: @narwhelly
