So when rescue comes in the form of three Kentucky hillbilly brothers--two of them mute--she reluctantly accepts. When they hire her to paint a dilapidated nineteenth-century hotel in middle-of-nowhere Nebraska, she expects nothing more than a few days' work and a meager paycheck. Instead, as the days turn into weeks, she discovers the true renovation is taking place within the brothers--and herself. Initially drawn in by the men's unexpected kindness and droll humor, she's mystified at their reticence to discuss their past. When shocking revelations about their family entwines with her own, she questions all she knows about her history. *please note this story does have some reader interaction* Highest Ranking #282 in horror!! "Allow me to explain how the game is played." said the executioner toward the group of people. "It is very simple, but unlike how you would normally play, for instance the deck of cards over here." the man pointed toward the little stand on which a deck of cards sat. "As well as for each letter inside of the word you get, we will bring out X amount of stairs, which for each wrong letter, you will walk up one stair, finally going toward death-consider your mistakes the same as digging your own grave." He hideously smiled toward them. They, the victims and the executioner, were inside some sort of gymnasium, however on the floor were polls in which many people were chained to- hands behind their back, unable to sit up, and dog collars along their necks. "What's the deck of cards for?" someone yelled out. "Those... are special event cards..." he left the crowd hanging, not removing the hidden fear in each of their hearts about what the deck of cards was, yet rather instilling a even worse sense of dread, as for when the first card is drawn....
