Nina Rosario, 19, arrives home after her first year of being away from her family and the people she grew up with in Washington Heights, New York. She had been at Stanford University in California when things started tumbling down. The only safe place for her was the fire escape of her parents apartment back home. Her older brother, Lincoln, 24, works for her father as well as one of her closest friends Benny, 24, who she's had a crush on since she was 13. However she didn't think it was socially acceptable to date your older brothers best friend. The close knit community of the 181st street and Fort Washington Ave corner was something Nina always loved. The rest of the characters are the same age and relationships in the Original Broadway Production. Mandy Gonzalez (27) has been dating her boyfriend and fellow costar Chris Jackson (30) for two years by the time off-broadway rehearsals to begin for their show, in which they play one another's love interests(Nina and Benny), called In The Heights. The couple met during a 2004 reading of the same show. Karen Olivo (29) has been in a long term relationship of 4 years with her boyfriend when she joins the In The Heights family as the second lead female, Vanessa. Almost 18 years later (2018) and Mandy is staring in the smash Broadway hit Hamilton and was looking to adopt a 'third' child after having her daughter Maribelle in 2012. Amber, now a junior in High School, is now 17 and finds herself pregnant after a party where she ended up having her drink spiked and lost all sense of what was happening. She was raped by one of her classmates, but no one knows who. Knowing she can't care for the child, but also knowing that she can't bring herself to have an abortion, immediately puts her unborn daughter up for adoption. You can see where this is going. Mandy chooses to adopt Carly at birth, wanting to help the 17 year old out, not knowing that the 17 year old was her own daughter from 2000. (Okay, I have no idea what is going to happen to this story, how it's going to be written, but I had an idea and I wrote it. Becky's been away from home, portraying the role of Nessarose in the National tour of Wicked. She'd seen her family when they played in New Jersey and when she had her vacation week with them. She missed her mom and dad. But most of all she missed her little sister. Upon her arrival home she discovers that there has been a change in the family that threatens to pull them all apart. Becky struggles to find her place in the business and in her family. She hates being 'Mandy's daughter' is convinced that that's why she landed a particular role when she knew she fluffed up the audition. However when rehearsals start, she begins to fall for her co-star and everything changes as she learns to be herself, be independent and be a Broadway actress. She begins to realise that she has to embrace who her mother is as everything she knows about the business came from her.

Chris finds himself on the verge of losing his second wife, when the story spreads across the theatre community, and then across the city, as to what happened the night before the couple woke up apart.
