Growing up in a mostly hispanic neighborhood basically sheltered me from the reality of discrimination and racism. It made me oblivious to the unrelenting hate that continues to go on to this day.
I had never experienced anyone trying to lower my self esteem or make me out to be inferior simply because of what race I am. That all changed when my family and I moved across the county to North Carolina. Southern hospitality is real but not always towards everyone.
Differences shouldn't matter. They don't matter. But to some people they always will.
