She shut her eyes tightly, trying to dam the flood of tears threatening to betray her resolve. But it was futile. She cried-a silent victim screaming inwardly. Her breath caught, her chest heaved, her heart raced like it wished to escape her body. She had pleaded with God countless times-why, why had He given her this life? Silence. In time, her prayers darkened. If salvation would not come, then perhaps an end would. She begged for death. Still-nothing.
She had come to doubt His existence. But today, amidst the chaos and her despair, she found herself praying once more. Just one last time. Perhaps, this time, He might hear her.
