This is my version of what could have happened in the depths of Ba Sing Se if Zuko had chosen to defect. I really don't know why there aren't more like this, it seems like one of the ultimate Zutara moments.

Katara being the princess of the Southern Water Tribe is being forced to marry Prince Zuko of the Fire Nation to keep peace between the two bending countries.

Katara is the last waterbender of the Southern Water Tribe. The Fire Nation had wiped out all of the existing waterbenders in the southern tribe and is in control of the whole South Pole. Katara's ability is endangered, and she must be protected to preserve the ancient art of waterbending. In order to do so, she must escape the South Pole. A stranger comes to help, but he has a secret...

This is a little different from the show, not just the events but some of the characters positions. Katara hasn't met Zuko yet, but she has met Haru. Haru's father has become some important person. The Earth Kingdom will make an alliance with the Southern water tribe if Katara marries Haru. Zuko gets wind of this and decides to capture Katara the bride-to-be. How will this work out for Zuko? The Gaang has to go through the Cave of Two Lovers and they have the same problems. Except this time Katara and Zuko get trapped together and Jet has tagged along to get in the way of everything. The gang think of a plan but when it goes wrong, and Katara is left to die. Zuko saves her and looks after her. They learn about eachother and begin to fall in love. Im terrible at descriptions. Im sorry. Also please excuse the fact that the writing is terrible in the begining. It gets better later in the book i promise. I started writing this as my first book and had no experience 😅
