It's been a couple months since Mal, Evie, Carlos, and Jay arrived at Auradon Prep. It's also been a couple months since Ben announced his love for Mal, and they started dating. The Evil Queen wants them to finish what Mal, Jay, Evie, and Carlos didn't. To get the Fairy Godmothers wand, to release Maleficent, and get the villains off the island.
