A psychiatrist once told Stella Montgomery that perception is reality. That same psychiatrist told her many other things, too. Those weren't important. What was important colored her reality: psychosis. One simple word. It colored many years of her life, until she finally got it under control. The shadows, that harbored things best left alone, grew smaller. They stopped moving. Fantastical creatures, found in small sunbeams and hidden pockets withdrew into their world. Her world had a lot less color without them. Yet, despite the years of fractured reality, she survived. Stella achieved her goals and continued to work towards new ones. She was thirty. She was alive. Then one woman walked into her life, dropped life changing news in her lap, and walked away. Once more, Stella has one chance. And the stakes have never been higher. Runner up in the general fiction category in the Earnesty Writing Awards 2019. Cover by w_nnie! And my thanks to them.

Aspen asked, arching a brow. Vera's heart stuttered. "What?" Aspen laughed, then grinned. She gently grabbed Vera's wrist and walked them back through the main hall, turning behind the bookshelf marked Historical Fiction, and leading them to the dark corner. "Let me know if you want to stop," Aspen whispered, before pulling Vera close. *** Vera's life changes forever when her sister's best friend, Aspen, shows up drunk at her doorstep one fateful night. While Vera's sister, Layla, likes to dance and party, Vera prefers to read a good book and stay in for the night. Layla and her best friend Aspen are the most popular girls at Hilltop High. Vera never had a boyfriend-she barely even had her first kiss. But when Layla and their parents leave for a dance competition, Aspen shows up drunk at her doorstep and changes everything. Putting a twist on the familiar trope, My Sister's Best Friend is a feel good story of first love, queer romance, and coming of age. *** Warnings: This story contains a healthy dose of cursing, a teasing amount of lingerie, sprinkles of fluff, and of course, girlxgirl action. Also, there are underlying sub-themes of cancer with non-main characters, and is not fatal in this story. **CURRENTLY A FEATURED STORY** highest ranking: #11 in Science fiction ❝true happiness is only achieved without freedom. There is a girl who wakes to a world that she was supposed to protect. Instead, she fights it. There is a man who is cursed with the ability to dream. A glass city is their cage, a city filled to the brim with unanimity and order, a paradise on an earth laid to waste by an artificial snowstorm. Sunlight filters through the glass buildings and through glass walls, pierces glass floors. It illuminates the city square when it is strongest at noon, surrounded by a huddled mass of citizens, all as perfect as the city they inhabit. And they all think: everything is as it should be. And it is. Or, it was. -- long live perfection.❞ (c)sarahgaier2016 #diverselit | #LoveEqualsLove | #helpfightcliches | #freethelgbtq | #badassreads check out my Science Fiction novella, Sector-33, here! https://www.wattpad.com/story/62174094-sector-33
