The story starts when she arrives in the midst of a family broken up by her brother's unbridled womanizing—something that prefigures her own later situation, though with less tolerance for her by others.

A bird-catcher enters a small town to sell his lovely singing canaries. Despite some lack of interest most of the townspeople have, he meets a lone woman who lost her singing voice. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Wrote this for a college class a semester or two ago. It was an interesting assignment and people seemed to enjoy it.
