You were in your element when you stood on a stage. You could confidently sing the melody, serenely take the harmony, basking in the attention and relishing in the feel of your heels hitting the stage and the strain of your vocal cords. You'd been singing for fours years, but the best career decision you'd made was joining up with Mettaton for several duets. You often performed with the monster, and he'd become your best friend, but despite his constant pestering you had yet to meet the rest of his friends. *Authors Note* I originally started this story in 2016, but never finished. I've recently regained my writing mojo, and decided to rewrite, edit and finish Can You Hear Me?.

This is based off the song Took Me By Surprise (obviously) By Maria Mena. BlackHat is pushing Dr. Flug to the brink of insanity. No matter what the Doctor does it doesn't seem to be enough. 201X. Why the "X"? That's because little Frisk wasn't quite the best at counting. And the calendar over their bed was about three years (five years?) too old. They DID know how old they were, though, and they didn't really have the tact to care about much else regarding numbers. Much less the number of people that weren't around anymore. Who knew how long ago it was now, but Frisk still remembered when the orphanage was filled with tons of other kids (most of which avoided them entirely.) Now, since the surface went through nuclear fallout, they were surprisingly one of the few people in the world to survive. Sure, they knew there had to be tons more, but still - when everyone who used to be around just stopped all at once, you really had to learn how to take care of yourself. And they did. One morning, while out on a supplies run, they must've made a wrong turn or something, because they ended up falling down a mountain. And apparently, monsters DO exist, and they're in a bit of trouble themselves. A disease called the "Black Mold" has broken out over the entirety of the Underground, killing off almost all of those unfortunate enough to catch it. Monsters are sick, dying, or long gone already, and nothing will ever be the same as it was before the illness contaminated the monster king, Asgore, leading to his untimely demise. With the cause (or cure) of the disease still unknown and highly contagious, along with no hierarchy left to lead what's left of the monster race, there's only so much a dying kingdom can do. However, Frisk's big heart finds a need to go and try to make things better for the monsters. Little do they know how sad, angry, and dead the Underground is, these days... Welcome to Devastale. This is a collection of chapters from my [Sans x reader] fanfic, Can You Hear Me? but from Sans perspective. Before reading this, I suggest you take a look at the main story, as this one will be based on the votes I get for the different chapters and probably won't make sense otherwise. It's been a few years since the barrier was finally broken by a human named Frisk, finally releasing the monsters back to the surface. They were all settling down well, finding jobs, learning about the surfaces history, and integrating themselves in the new culture that had started since their appearance. That's what most monsters were doing, anyway. Sans was a different story. Though he was happy everything had worked out in the end, and that the monsters were back on the surface, he was having trouble finding anything that really interested him up there. But that suited him fine, he thought, as long as everyone else was happy. That is, until he met (y/n). By some chance, Mettaton had been working with the rising star (y/n) Heir, and by another coincidence, dragged her along to one of the get togethers the gang had at Papyrus' house. That's the night everything changed for the group of friends that rallied around Frisk, and, that's also the night things got a lot more interesting for Sans on the surface. If I had to give this story an age rating I'd say maybe 14+ or PG 13 I do use swearwords, there is violence, and there may be topics some people aren't as comfortable with.
