"We have to get out of here." I spoke somberly, an expression of grave seriousness plastered on my face. I knew the weight my words carried in this moment, as well as the consequences that came with it. The muscles in my shoulders were taught. Tension filled the air like a toxic gas, making it harder to breathe. I looked over at Abbey who sat on the bar stool next to me, her back went poker straight at my words and I could tell by the look she was giving me that not only did she know that I was right, she knew the gravity of the situation at hand.
In this moment her green eyes turned gray, mixed heavily with anxiety and knowing. If I could have guessed it she was thinking about looking into our futures to see the outcome. She knew as well as I did that some details were best left unchecked, but that never stopped her before. A grim look crossed her face before she broke our gaze, I held my breath.
"It won't be easy," she said softly, her voice barely a whisper. "We may not make it out alive."
"I know." Oh boy, did I know.
