When Fourteen year old her wrote her first letter he was a nineteen year boy just heading off to basic filled with fears of not making it through and doubts if he made the right choice in joining. She's been there through everything from Basic, each station, his first station overseas, through all his deployments and when he found his place in the military world And then it went to just talking about his life in the military to being a long distance support when his father died, his mom remarried, when his three year girlfriend cheated on him during his first deployment and his new girlfriend did on his second. It's rare to have one pen-pal so long but even through all the years they always kept it the same, long hand written letters and occasional pictures of their lives but it was never more than that, they've never met and never communicated any other way. What she doesn't know? She's been the only constant light in a certain soldier's life since he was barley nineteen years old. Ian wasn't sure about having a pen-pal until he got his first letter from Eliza and she grew up right in front of his eyes with each letter he received. So she studies while Lalexia is at school when she gets a new client that her boss thought only she could handle. Shawn Sorci left home as soon as he could and never went back. He was off to basic right after graduation. He dedicated his life to the Army and in 9 years he had served a good portion of that overseas. He volunteered for deployments and his leadership qualities shone through as he was promoted to Sergeant First Class shortly before his latest deployment, which he didn't know could possibly be his last. Part way in they were ambushed and he was lucky to make it out with a couple gunshot wounds while some of his men never made it out. Now on medical leave while he recovers he's irritable, frustrated, angry and not wanting to admit he was suffering from PTSD. He needed to let off some steam and that's where Mari come in. He didn't want some fake experience because he really didn't care so when he tells her to speak her mind she becomes the most infuriating and sarcastic woman he's ever met, putting him in his place on many occasions much to his amusement. For once in his life he feels a fierce protectiveness for someone other than for the men he served with but she wants nothing to do with that, to her he's a client and nothing else.

Can he overcome his bitterness from the past to save the family he's always dreamed of? Doug Masters has watched his best friends, Thad and Camille, struggle their way to happiness and finds himself wishing he had a small piece of that for himself. When a blast from his past walks through his office door, he finds himself in a unique position to reach out and grab what he's always wanted.
