Beatrice Prior has let depression take over her life for three years but after one almost suicidal breakdown she is determined to save herself. She leaves her parents house and moves to Chicago. She is determined to save herself and never let depression take over again. She gets a job as a police officer in Chicago and trains hard. She wants to die a heroic, selfless death as a police officer but she never thought she would fall in love with a man who loves her more than anything.
