"You know how when you're driving and it's pouring down rain, and you drive under a bridge and everything stops. Everything goes silent and it's almost peaceful. Then you finally get out from under the bridge, and everything hits you a lot harder than before. You were my bridge." -Unknown A series of short one-shots I've written. All stories are based off of intense emotional damage I have acquired over the years, and how I perceive it. Some are more interpreted in a metaphorical fashion, others are slightly modified versions of crippling fears or true events I have experienced. Please enjoy my suffering :).

My name's Rubye Chandler. But I haven't been called that ever since I got my hands on the unsolved Rubik's Cube on my teacher's desk in kindergarten. Now I'm called Rubix. I'm the heart-throb of the school, almost every guy in school claims they're in love with me, almost. The only problem is who will have me? But that problem ended when someone said: "Let's handle this like gentlemen. Whoever can beat Rubix at her own game, can rightfully claim her his." No way I'm going to let my dignity and record taken away without a fight, with a record of 7.26 seconds. I'm confident no one will beat me, and that I can live off being single the rest of high school. But the tables turn when there's a new kid in town. He's not like most guys, failing in art and other classes, skipping classes and not participating in the games. Something about him is different, little did I know that one thing would change the Rubix Cube Challenge forever.

"Race, what's goin' on? Where 'ave ya been?" Crutchie asked, eyeing the boy with worry. Race ignored him and continued limping to the stairs. "Race, get back over here. Crutch and I stayed up waitin' for ya, the least you can do is tell us where youse been." "I'm fine," Race mumbled, not stopping. Jack quickly stepped forward and grabbed the younger boy's arm, not missing the way he tensed up. "C'mon Race, look at me. What's wrong?" Race slowly turned around, keeping his eyes down with the brim of his hat casting a shadow across his face. "I just had a run-in with a couple of guys who were lookin' for a fight. I got a little beat up. Really, it's nothin'." "It's not 'nothing' Race. You're walkin' worse than I do!" Crutchie exclaimed. Jack grabbed Race's chin and tipped it up and Crutchie gasped. Jack's eyes widened too as he and Crutchie got a glimpse of their brother's face. Crutchie's face turned red with anger, his hand clenching his crutch tightly. "Who did this to you?" *** It's a month after the strike, and everything is going great... until it's not. It starts with small arguments with newsies from the other boroughs, and only gets worse. None of the boys know whats going on, but they're trying to ignore it, until one day something happens that none of them can ignore. A/N: Sorry about the sucky summary, I'm bad at writing those.
