Dear Readers, I am just starting to upload my stories--and learning how Wattpad works. So I thought that I would start out with a short ficlet--a reimagined scene from the BBC's 2004 "North & South". I hope that you enjoy it. Cheers! Gratiana Lovelace P.S. "North & South" images are courtesy of www.RichardArmitageNet.com

This story is set in modern day Philadelphia and has most of the characters from EG's novel as well as characters from Sandy Welch's adaptation. The title of the story is inspired by John Mayer's song of the same name (which reminds me a lot of John and Margaret's relationship). I hope you all enjoy it. I appreciate all feedback.

When John and Margaret catch a fleeting glimpse of each other at a railway station in the Midlands after months apart, it gives John the impetus to travel to London in the hope of meeting Margaret again. When he impulsively proposes to her and is accepted, it seems that their happiness is complete. As they adjust to their new situation as an engaged couple, both of them find themselves having to deal with the doubts and opposition of others as well as having to resolve old issues and face new ones as they come to learn that falling in love is just the beginning. This story picks up at the point towards the end of the BBC adaptation when Margaret goes to visit the mill while John is in Helstone. It is based upon both the adaptation and the novel. PLEASE NOTE: The chapters of this story tend, as they go on, to become very long. I have considered making them shorter for posting on here, but have decided against it as I think they work well as they stand at the moment. Please also note that this story is still ongoing. I will complete it at some point, but cannot say when at the moment.

As crushes go, Elaine Marshall's romantic crush on her best friend Rodger Calendar is a doozy-and doomed! Forty year old Rodger is tall, dark, and handsome-naturally befitting the six foot four inch muscular leading man hunk of an actor that he is. Elaine is forty five years old, 160 pounds, and five foot four inches tall-very nicely womanly curvy-with long silky brunette hair that she usually styles up and out of the way in a loose twist. But, Elaine knows that she's older than Rodger is, she's not as 'pretty' as Rodger is, and she's not British like Rodger is. So it's "three strikes and you're out"-in Elaine's mind--to use one of her American idioms. But, Elaine is grateful for Rodger's close friendship forged from them working on different artistic projects together and becoming best friends over the past few years. Elaine just needs to 'move on' with her life so that she can find romance for herself-especially since romance is supposedly her writing genre. And, Elaine has an attractive face and a pleasing disposition. So, Elaine has hope in her quest to find love for herself. She just doesn't expect to find love where she does.
