Calandra the mermaid gets caught up in a web of treasure-seeking pirates. This was supposed to be a vacation! Warning: non-graphic violence abounds and there are definitely feels here. Takes place in the setting of my fantasy world for "Bastian's Song", but it stands alone and you certainly don't need to have read one to understand the other. This was written for publication in the One Million Project: Fantasy Anthology of 2017 and will be available for purchase (I believe) in September/October of 2017 via Amazon. All proceeds from any purchases go towards charity and do not benefit the authors. [ Cover Artist: Hilary Simonson ]

Last decade, before we moved back to our present farm in the country we love so dearly, I was a careworker for a few years. This story is about one of my most frustrating but loveable clients who showed me once again how the greatest courage demanded is often in facing each hour of every new day - and getting through it. I think you'll find yourself, like me, getting teary from laughter as much (if not more) than from empathy with this tough little battler and her lifetime of hurdles.

🌼 Wattpad Featured Story 🌼 Highest rank: #423 in Short Story (28 September 2017) Jaejoon wanted to die. As a musical protégé, he had quickly risen to stardom only to realize that fame came at a price. Having fallen far from his pedestal and having lost the ability to make music, he decided that death was his only recourse. And so, one summer night, when a typhoon wreaked havoc outside his remote cottage in idyllic Jeju Island, he invited death to come knocking. When death arrived at his door, it brought an unexpected companion. With death came an angel who played beautiful music that stirred his soul. The only problem was, she only spoke English, a language he barely understood. Was this another one of fate's cruel tricks or was it a second chance at redemption? --- A/N: This story was originally written for the #OneMillionProject anthology. It's a project involving a global network of creatives working to fund Cancer Research UK and EMMAUS (Homelessness organization). Thank you to Erikson (@LeQueen-) for helping me with the cover.

Jodie is a nature photographer by profession, captivated by the beauty of the natural world. An encounter with Monet's series on haystacks seen at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston inspires her to find an object in nature that she can follow through the seasons with her photography, much like Monet did with his art. She finds the perfect subject, a worn bench on the side of the lake, and makes that the center of her project. Her year-long mission is almost at a close with her final season and final time of day when she is thwarted by an old man sitting on the bench. She is so captivated by his aura that she begins photographing him, a contrast to her previous focus on solely inanimate objects. What she finds later in her studio, so baffles her that she sets out on a mission to prove that she is not crazy or imagining things. What results is so mysterious that the reader may never know the answer.
