"He glared at his eyes in the mirror, as if he could scare them into changing colour."
Daemon has always hated his Hellfire-red eyes. When he thought he was human, it was because they marked him out as different. Now that he knows what he is, they're a constant reminder of the evil within him. He's a halfbreed, feared by the humans he wants to befriend and mocked by the demons he rejected. Caught in the middle, his only solace is found working for the anti-demon Order of Michael and spending his life hunting and killing the evil bastards- a kind of bloody 'up yours' to his demonic father.
But when the girl he loves becomes infected with a poison that will transform her into a demon- the very thing he hates and fears most in the world- will he be able to keep control long enough to save her, or will he succumb to the demon inside?
In a YA urban fantasy novel about magic, demons and the inescapable bonds of family, a question emerges. Can we ever really rise above our natures? Or are we doomed to always become what we were born to be?
