At Magnolia high there is a social pyramid. At the very top is the power couple, Gray Fullbuster the hockey player and Lucy Heartfilia the cheerleader. Gray and Lucy are the most popular kids, but they are jerks. They have "love." At the very bottom there are two humble and kind people, Juvia Lockser and Natsu Dragneel. They have beliefs. Juvia's brother Lyon killed himself thinking he had no one to love. This made Juvia believe as long as you have someone to love, you will always have a reason to live. Natsu's family was killed when he was just a seventh grader. After witnessing the death of his younger siblings Meredy, Wendy, Chelia, and Romeo, Natsu believed that blood types don't matter.
