Looking at the map several times to confirm, yes it's beautiful, it's perfect. The little town in Greece, right at the edge of the sea. Far away from any other towns on the coast, surrounded by gorgeous trees. It was a wonderful escape from my home town, new faces, and new opportunities. Asura tried to escape her home she grew up in, and she got her chance. Finding a town that few knew of, and few lived by, it was a great option. Calling in for homes she was surprised at how easy it was, moving all the way from Russia, the man helping her get settled, knew just how to do things. Although when she gets there, she is surprised at what she is faced with, the men in the town weren't human and they didn't hide it, she didn't know what they were. What's worse is that she was brought right into the middle of the mating year, where they viciously fight off anyone who goes near a woman. Terrified she is approached by the most important men in charge, what were they? How can she get away. Once a woman is marked they become tied together, nothing can break it, they are companions till death.

I froze; the guard yelled, telling me to get a move on. The unearthly screeching sent all of us into shock, soon turning into fear. Some cried the moment they reached the door. I didn't know what was coming, but it'd be painful. “Next!” I was two kids away from the cold metal plated door. I closed my eyes, hearing a scream from behind the door. The girl in front of me started to cry. “Shut up!” A guard yelled, slapping her cheek. My eyes widened and I forced myself to swallow tears that threatened to fall. “Next!” My sore bare feet scraped across the dark tiled floor as I made my way forward while the next child went in. I wouldn't survive a slap to the cheek, no matter how strong I looked. “Next!” The girl in front of me quivered and shook, her fear obvious. I cringed away from the door as a laugh echoed in the next room. “Stand up straight!” The guard yelled at me. I didn't dare look him in the eyes, knowing I'd be hit like the last child that stared at him. “Next!” My skin crawled as the door opened...

It happened every month; on every second Sunday, at exactly 11:59 P.M. the screams would start, echoing around the world like a dreadful reminder. Anyone, human or not, who heard the screams of pain and terror would know that once again, The Event had started. Routines were the same everywhere. Mothers would usher their children into their homes, whether big or small, while fathers and father figures alike would silently protect and pray; pray that The Even never hit their towns or came near their families. Children under twelve years of age would be left curious, once again wondering about what had caused the shrill screams and why. If above the age of twelve, children would join their fathers in praying silently in their hearts; for they knew the consequences of The Event. But there was always one category of people that prayed the most, hoped the hardest, and worried constantly. During The Event, one could often find females, between the ages of thirteen and twenty-one sitting in corners, surrounded by those who would give their lives to protect them. Tears would be rolling down their cheeks as even their screwed shut eyes leaked them. Most would bite their lip in order to contain sobs, so hard that often, there were also small, thin streams of the dark liquid tumbling down their chins. The terror they felt, naked and strong on their faces, made it hard for anyone to lay their eyes on the females during The Event. They had everything to fear, because they were the ones being hunted. It happened every month; on every second Sunday, at exactly 11:59 P.M. the screams would start. And then, at precisely midnight, the screams would silence immediately, letting the world know that The Event was over for the moment. Everyone knew that, somewhere, a girl between the ages of thirteen and twenty-one had been taken, and would never be seen again in history. This time, that unlucky girl just happened to be me.
