Before the books and the blackboards. Before the scholarship letter that made her father cry on the prayer mat. Before she stood at the gates of the university, shoulders square against a world that had always demanded more than she had to give- There was silence. The kind that filled the room when she first entered the world. No cries. No laughter. Just a mother bleeding regret and a father bleeding pride. Jadwa Abdulrahman did not arrive with a golden spoon or a warm welcome. She was born into a quiet rebellion-two hearts that chose love over legacy, and paid for it with hunger and exile. Her name meant gift, but in those first days, she felt more like a burden that no one came to lift.

No matter how close you are to them, there are certain things you just don't say. No matter how lonely you feel, there are certain people you just don't befriend. No matter how much you've fallen, there's always a guy you shouldn't give your heart to... Sadly for me, I learnt the last one only after I had gotten my heart broken. They say that you shouldn't look down upon anyone, or you will be put in their situation and made to experience the crisis. When I was fourteen, I had rolled my eyes at a girl who was sobbing histerically over a guy who liked her best friend. And I was probably paying the price for that now. However, I was trying my best to fit my feet in the shoes I had been given. I was trying and I was managing just fine. What I didn't need was a trouble maker who entered my life without permission. The guy who claimed to be bowled over by me, the one with a broken heart. Little did he know, I had entrusted myself to Al Malik, The Owner of me and my heart. And if he had to reach me, he had to do so by pleasing Allah. Which wasn't possible for a guy like him. Or so I thought.

"Your husband is a terrorist! You rag-headed murderers! DIE!" A random woman yelled before hurling an egg towards the young woman. "Mama," Khadijah whispered fearfully before wrapping her arms around the hijab-clad woman. Iman inhaled deeply before covering Khadijah with her body. Her daughter had suffered enough. She wouldn't let the bigots get to her. She swore that on her life. Iman had been hit with eggs, stones, and other minuscule items ever since the media had descended on her. They wanted to know how it was possible for Dawood Khan's wife to not know that her husband was a terrorist. He wasn't. There wasn't a terrifying strand of hair on his head. She knew what happened that day, the day Dawood was taken from them. Her five-year old daughter had faced the carnage head on while she was at work. A day filled with joy had turned their lives upside down. Iman Abdullah was a warrior. She would find out what happened to her husband. She would find him. Nedim looked at the young teen in front of him and called out, "Khadijah." "I know what you're going to say, Imam Nedim. You'll tell me to have patience. You'll tell me that we'll find my father. You'll give me reassurances. You'll tell me that you believe in him, but you know what Imam Nedim?" The blue-eyed, Caucasian-looking teen whispered in question. Nedim quietly watched as the teen picked up the picture of his family on the table. She looked at it and smiled sarcastically before whispering, "I don't believe you, Imam Nedim. Instead of standing up for my father, you condemned him like the rest of the congregation. He isn't a terrorist. He never was. He was your friend, but you betrayed him. You helped destroy my family, while you live happily with your in. In my eyes, you're as bad as the men who shot him. Please don't try to console me when you are just as bad as them," Khadijah whispered before heading out the door.
