We can all agree that our generation can't live without music or video games or anything else like that. Now, think of a world where all that is pretty much illegal. Would you be able to live without these things? Bet not. Luckily, you don't have to (hopefully.) But the people in this story do. And they'll do whatever they can to gain freedom.
