Loan shark Saionji Akito doesn't care what you're borrowing money for but you will pay it back, one way or another. However, when her customers start missing their repayment dates, it is clear that it isn't a simple boycott. With further inspection, she finds that a string of women working in the sex industry and those connected to them have started going missing as a new crime family tries to move in on the city run by a local legend. Now, she couldn't really care less for the private well-being of people she held no personal ties to, but she would not have anyone bilk on the debts they owed her regardless of the reason. With the help and hinder of her ties to Japan's seedy underworld, and her high school friend who has made a name for herself in the adult entertainment industry, Saionji finds herself digging up more than the issue of simple kidnappings. As her investigation progresses, it's clear that every single person around her has a dark secret they are going to great lengths to keep as just that, and that the web of deceit spans further than could have ever been imagined.

Alexandria Baines is neither working on becoming canonized, nor takes part in Black Mass, yet she is still stuck with the frustrating ability to see things no human should be forced to see. With a blotchy education history and a rap-sheet that is as long as her mental health record, she has no hope for any kind of stable lifestyle, nor fits into any jigsaw space in society. Along with the perpetually cynical antique dealer Julian, and her only childhood friend, Domino, Alex has found herself in a particularly obscure situation concerning the supernatural. In the midst of retrieving occult artefacts and vanquishing the likes of low-level spirits, goblins, and skin-walkers, Alex finds her (thankfully) small group of two friends expanding exponentially with the likes of a ghoul, a cowboy, celestial beings and an array of other colourful creatures. Of course, the universe would not be quite right if it didn't throw equal amounts of Hellspawn and dating drama her way. Who am I kidding? The universe had a bone to pick with her. While trying to balance her unorthodox life, she quickly comes to the understanding that there are much bigger and scarier things out there than pissed off ghosties and murderous cults when she is dragged into a fight for humanity after a relic belonging to a particularly vindictive Prince of Hell is stolen.

Everyone is capable of something terrible - all they need is the right kind of push. Being highly proficient in the knowledge of horror movies, one would think that buying a long-abandoned house in the middle of nowhere would be an immediate red flag. However, for Corrina and Selene, it could be the little bit of adventure they needed to pull themselves out of the rut they had been stuck in for so long. This idea is quickly thrown out of the window after being had by their realtor when he fails to disclose the original history of the property. The idyllic spanning grounds were not the postcard real estate they had been promised, the two-hundred-year-old home holding secrets of torture and necromancy. And all of that before the mention of the townsfolk who seemed off by anybody's standards. Refusing to return to their previously troubled lives, and broke beyond compare after buying their new home, Cory and Len find themselves biting off more than they can chew in the form of truth-twisting love interests, kooky residents and the secrets they'd kill to keep, the antagonistic Mayor, the trials and tribulations of budding friendships, the investigating of their locally infamous property in the small town of Whitevale, New Hampshire - all while their own pasts compete with their new phantoms.
