On the first day that Lauren starts working at Starbucks, she swears to herself that she will never write her number down on someone's coffee cup.
//
"What do you write about?"
"Anything that interests me."
"Like what?"
"Things that people talk about in cafés. Cities. Winter weather. How the sun is going to die one day. Girls with pretty eyes. Wildlife documentaries. The middle of the universe. Being young."

Lauren has spent her whole life hunting down ghosts and sending them back behind the Veil. It's her duty.
Camila doesn't exactly have a steady heartbeat and sometimes she finds herself drifting through the bathroom door.
It's complicated.

Lauren doesn't know what Camila did to her but suddenly everyone seems to be a bad kisser compared to her.
And it fucking sucks because look, the girl she is kissing right now is freaking hot but goddammit, she is not Camila.
"But you have to kiss me, those are the rules," Camila insists, not looking away from Lauren's eyes.
(Except to look at Lauren's lips, Lauren does notice that.)
"Well, I'd rather kiss someone else, no offense."
Lauren doesn't know what she expected when she went out on her first date with Keana, but it certainly wasn't to get stood up. Another thing she didn't expect? Sharing an Uber with a girl named Camila and going out with her instead.
Or: Lauren is broke and decides to try out UberPool, Camila is lowkey wild and into midnight adventures and their first date is really unexpected, but it's not like they're complaining.
