" . . . It seemed as if Saphara was no longer paying attention to me. I envied those who could get lost in their past, and forget about reality. Where as I had no past. Well, I did, but not one where I ever did anything; thought of my own free will, walked on my own accord, loved without caring, felt hope, love, anguish, and despair. . ." In The Empire, no one has a soul and everyone is a subjugate to the Powers; the royal family. And the worst part is: no one even knows it. They can't think; the Powers think for them. They do what the Powers say or what The Voice says. Duke Whitings is one of the helpless, soulless people in The Empire. He makes a mistake that will change his life forever. This is his story. His story on how he found out that the best people, aren't really so great after all. The cover was graciously made by @Astariel. Rankings: #4 in unknown

The door flung open into the dark room, lightening struck the dark sky shining a little light on the shirtless man that stood by the doorway. "Who's there" my shaky voice masked with fear asked. Paying a deaf ear to my question he walked deeper into the room towards my bed as my shaky hands drew the covers higher over my whimpering self, right up to my nose. "Khalil?" my voice sounded weird coming through the thick duvet, it felt awkward calling his name I mean am I even allowed to call him that? I was more scared now that I knew who it was. What was he doing in room? A loud thunder sound came as he sat beside me, a little too close. Does this man know he's shirtless and in my room at eleven p.m? "Have you chosen a surrogate?" his thick voice cut through the sound of raindrops and my train of thoughts. I slowly shook my head at him. "Relax"He raised his hand to my face which was still covered halfway and slowly dragged down the covers down to my abdomen revealing my bare arms in my spaghetti strap v neck nightwear. I scanned the room for my robe and found it hanging on the coat rack in the far end of my room, I would get up to get it but my nightgown didn't really qualify as a gown. I watched his eyes travel up my body landing on my chest, his Adams apple bobbed up. He shut his eyes and when he opened them, they landed on mine sending shivers down my spine... Disclaimer ***Before you start, this book is now just a preview, don't ask about the rest of the book. It will be available in prints in sha Allah. Not on wattpad*** Scrolling down her phone, Zeena was reading her message log, when suddenly she stopped at a particular one that sent her heart racing, sending shivers down her spine. She almost dropped the phone. Not that she'd not seen odd messages before but this one, in particular, brought her world crashing; because she'd never seen this message before, how would it be that she was the person that sent it? How could she not remember ever writing this message? The words, the contents all didn't make sense. Her head started spinning and she felt light headed, her knees became weak like melted rubber. Before she knew what was happening she felt herself collapsing...

So, I was doing a critique tonight. And it was the person’s first book. And I was writing a bunch of the same things that I’ve written on a million other critiques since I started on Wattpad. And, it occurred to me that I keep giving people the same advice—advice that nobody gave me—and advice that beginner writer’s NEED. So I decided to put some of it down in a book, although I’m guessing most people won’t read it. Haha But the title pretty much says it all...
